I have been married 12 years and have two children. My husband and I have had a difficult marriage. He is very moody and was always fanatical about money. I always let him deal with the money and, since he was so fanatical about it, I always trusted him wtih it. I was wholly responsible for everything else at home – the kids, the house, etc. and I worked too. I knew he had a secret though. I just didn’t know what it was. The other day I discovered that he had deducted a sizable amount of money in gambling losses from our tax returns two years in a row. I mean a shocking number. I am floored. The losses were on slot machines. It is mind boggling. He goes to Vegas a few times a year either to meet friends or for work and I just believed him that he played a little, hung out, etc. I feel like such a fool. I keep trying to think that there may be another explanation but I can’t think of what it could be. I never even went thorugh our tax returns page by page because he took care of them with the accountant, filed them electronically, signed my name, etc. I didn’t really feel too concerned and there it was the whole time under my nose. Now I dont even know what our financial situation really is. Any advice you may have would be great. I have been thinkign about divorce for a long time and this is the final straw but I am so scared for my children and my future. I am afraid that I have thought we were financially secure when in fact we are not.
