I hope your all having a great night.
I really need help with my boyfriend, the one I love more then anyone in this entire world who can’t see that he has a gambling problem and I keep getting trapped/stuck.
We have talked about getting married and he continuously dropping hints about proposing, but it doesn’t feel like were a couple who is about to get engaged anymore. I feel and see those negative feelings, but he says he thinks everything is perfect.
he plays almost everday, on average 4 or 5 out of 7 days a week and is at the casino playing poker at the moment. it ranges from about 4 or 5 hours to overnight, a break to eat/sleep/etc. and play again if there are big tournaments
When he is there, he says he can’t talk to me because hes in a Tourney or a cash game and the tables hot and he needs to focus. He explains and argues that poker is not like the other table games because he has control over the game and its about skill. " I don’t understand because i don’t play poker, so I don’t know what i’m talking about and anyone who plays poker would agree with me" is what he says. He says that poker is seperate and loves the game and is good at it, knows what hes doing and is making money/having a goodtime so whats wrong with it?
when he wins, he plays more because hes "running hot" when he looses he plays to get his money back.
he has no job, because he says this is his job and treats it seriosuly.
I’ve explained how when I go to work I am guaranteed to make money/its an income whereas poker is not, but he counters that with that he makes more then I make in 2 weeks in 1 night, and winning and loosing equals it out.
Almost all of the friends he hangs out with plays poker as well.
I see this as a huge problem for the future and all our relationship is becoming is focused on his poker playing habbits and not us…he doesn’t see where i am coming from and is becoming so distant it hurts.
What can I tell him to make him see?!
I hope you are having a great night and please any words of wisdom would be highly appreciated!
